hey.

wolfgang staehle got in touch with me about the Etoys/etoy
fiasco, so i started distributing info about it in various
lists that are high in the informatic food chain. and, heh,
it worked: jamie mccarthy called up zai last night and they
talked for an hour or so--jamie'll write something abou it
for slashdot, today. also, drazen pantic is getting in touch
with the big cheeses at the EFF to see if they're willing to
help. we'll see whether *that* happens; i'm skeptical. also,
i got in touch with the guy who runs the DDA (domain defense
advocate) list at ajax.org, which used to be really good at
mobilizing people to hassle terrorist companies. i'll keep
working on this.

it's a VERY tricky time for this to be happening, because NSI
just a few days ago stopped their DDRP (domain dispute reso-
lution policy) to allow for ICANN's terrible new UDRP (uniform
dispute resolution policy). so alternatives to court are all
in flux now, no one will want to stick their finger in the
issue.

but it's now christmas buying season, of course, when some
absurdly huge percentage of toy purchases are made. that's why
Etoys was in such a rush to ram this through. so the main thing
to do is to make as much noise as possible, encourage a boycott,
this kind of thing.

the problem is that the most effective way to do this is NOT to
use standard etoy style, which freaks people out. so--this is
just my opinion, one among many, definitely partial and flawed--
you guys should decide what's more important to you: maintaining
a consisten etoy style through this hassle, or fucking Etoys. if
it's the latter, then this case is very ripe for causing the
company some serious trouble: 'big evil capitalist company with
$841B market capitalization but only two years old screws award-
winning euro artist group, boycott them, use their competitors,
here are the URLs...'
